mAAN*Y Singapore 2010 comprises of an international competition, an interactive workshop, an industry conference and a public forum and exhibition. The first edition of mAAN*Y will be held in Singapore in 2010 with the theme “Let’s not talk about architecture” and is co-organized by re:ACT and mAAN,
A spin-off from Le Corbusier’s words, “I don’t want to talk about architecture”, this year’s theme seeks to explore modern asian architecture and the built environment by not talking about it. Not directly at least.
We believe that architecture is more than just the product of a singular vision by an architect or a planner. It is shaped by the society that uses it, the political and economic forces surrounding it, the media landscape in the country, its cultural influences, historical context and much more. The interplay of these various forces gives form to our built environment and this is the interest of mAAN*Y Singapore 2010.
We kick off with launch of international ideas competition focusing on implementable community engagement.
The architectural ideas competition, which is the first component of the series of events, runs from 8th March 2010 to 7th June 2010 and is open to participants, from any country or territory. To be judged by internationally recognized theoreticians and practitioners from across the world familiar with community-based built projects such as Sou Fujimoto, George Kunihiro and Edward Ng, the competition hopes to create new conversations that will contribute meaningfully to the dialogue about the Asian City and its future.
3 awards of USD$2000 each will be given to the following:
The Collaboration Award
The Implementability Award
The Conceptual Award
NEWS: Due to overwhelming responses and technical issues in registration, the competitions committee has decided to extend the registration deadline to 22 May and the submission deadline to 7 Jun. The announcement of the finalist will be on 18 Jun. Details on submission will be posted up soon.
